HYPERACUSIS SYMPTOMS
If you suffer from hyperacusis you may experience one or more of the symptoms listed below:
- Tinnitus: over 80% of hyperacusis sufferers also experience symptoms of tinnitus (ringing in the ears).
- Ear pain
- Headaches
- Moodiness and irritability
- Phonophobia: Avoiding social events: in many instances people that have extremely sensitive hearing, will avoid social events in order to avoid potentially embarrassing and uncomfortable situations. This can even have an impact on family life.
- Anxiety and panic attacks
- Fatigue: due to the inability to get a good night's rest.
- Loss of balance, dizziness and nausea
- Musicogenic epilepsy: this is a form of epilepsy that occurs when a person is exposed to music that contains frequencies that they may be sensitive to.
- Addiction to tranquilizers: in many instances patients may become addicted to tranquilizers (such as benzodiazepine) when seeking relief for the pain caused by hypersensitive hearing.
